With an $8 million prize pool, it’s the richest handicap event in the world.
When does it start?
The Melbourne Cup is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. AEDT (Victoria, New South Wales, Australian Capital Territory, and Tasmania) as the seventh event on the schedule. It is scheduled to air at 2 p.m. AEST in Queensland, 2.30 p.m. ACDT in South Australia, 1.30 p.m. ACST in the Northern Territory, and midday AWST in Western Australia.

It will air on Network 10 and ABC Local’s radio program. In addition, it will be broadcast on the digital channel Racing.com and streamed live on 10Play and Kayo.

The bookies’ favorite is Vauban, an Irish-trained French horse trained by Willie Mullins, but favorites don’t often prevail, particularly in the last 20 years.
Other favorites are the top weight, who is only one kilogram heavier than Gold Trip, and the previous year’s winner, Gold Trip.
