In order to submit nomination papers for the next general elections, PML-N leader Ishaq Dar wrote to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday, requesting a two-day delay.
With less than a month until polls close, the electoral watchdog is in election mode. All questions about the election were answered last week when the commission issued the schedule.
As scheduled, the nomination process for national and provincial parliament seats began yesterday. The paperwork can be filed between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. until Friday, December 22.
A candidate must have two voters from the same constituency who would propose and second his candidature, in accordance with the electoral board’s rules. However, no one may second or suggest more than one candidate.

As per the ECP schedule, candidates were required to submit their nomination papers between December 20 and December 22, and the days for inspection were scheduled between December 24 and December 30. Dar, the head of the party’s election cell, stated as much in a letter posted on X (formerly Twitter).
He stated, “The commission has the authority to alter the [election] schedule as needed without affecting or changing the polling date.”
PML-N senator’s tweet
The PML-N senator noted that although nomination papers were due in three days, their review process took seven days.
“A number of details and supporting documents, including NOCs and NECs from various public sector ministries, must be included in the nomination paper submission procedure. Such an endeavour requires a great deal of time, and Dar contended that any delay could lead to the nomination papers being denied.
“Therefore, it is requested that a two-day extension be granted for the filing of nomination papers by amending the schedule issued on December 15 without changing the polling day in order to facilitate thousands of candidates desiring to participate in elections,” he said.
