The Edmonton Oilers beat the San Jose Sharks 5-0 on Thursday. Ryan McLeod, Evan Bouchard, and Zach Hyman scored and assisted in the first.
Leon Draisaitl and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins started Edmonton’s three-game California trip with goals. Stuart Skinner’s 25 saves tied his career high and earned him his second shutout of the year.
After a slow start, the Oilers have won 11 of their last 14 games.
They scored four goals in the first quarter, giving Skinner “a lot of confidence.”
“I think we were rolling around for a good five minutes straight in their end, and that’s a huge credit to the guys being ready off the bat,” said Skinner.
Skinner had many great saves, according to Oilers coach Kris Knoblauch.
“We gave up a lot of shot attempts from the slot, more than we have probably in the last dozen games,” said Knoblauch.

“There were some good things tonight,” Sharks coach David Quinn said, “but we didn’t score a goal, and we gave up five.” “Never abandon the five aims. Their keeper was good. So they didn’t completely control the pitch; we had several chances. They profited from our mistakes while we didn’t learn.”
The Edmonton Oilers took the lead in the first minute. Hyman dropped the ball, and McLeod’s left-circle wrist shot scored his fourth goal in four attempts.

Defender Darnell Nurse stated, “It’s easy to wade yourself into the game and not get out to the start that you want,” “especially coming off a break.” “But for us to be able to come out here and put up four in the first period, I think it really set the tone for the game.”
When Mackenzie Blackwood missed his second straight game due to illness, Chrona, a lower league promotion, replaced him. After Wednesday’s 5-1 loss to Los Angeles, Kaapo Kahkonen started. Kahkonen was obliged to play relief after the opening frame.
Sharks forward Tomas Hertl remarked, “We left him out to dry.” Since it was his first NHL game, I felt for him. We couldn’t assist him.
