At the age of 61, American actor Andre Braugher, who appeared in the television series Homicide: Life on the Street and Brooklyn 99, passed away.
His publicist, Jennifer Allen, made the announcement of his passing following a brief illness.
Perhaps the most well-known character Braugher had was that of Captain Raymond Holt in the last season of the comedy series Brooklyn 99 in 2021.
Terry Crews, his co-star, paid tribute to the actor on Instagram.
“I can’t believe you’re gone so soon,” it said.
It is a privilege to have known you, worked with you, laughed with you, and spent eight incredible years recognizing your priceless skill.
Another brief tribute was given by Marc Evan Jackson, who plays Braugher’s on-screen spouse, Dr. Kevin Cozner.
“Have mercy, captain. “My captain,” it murmured.
Charles Boyle’s star, Braugher, heard some of Joe Lo Truglio’s favorite recollections from the role.
“The man was so full of song, and that’s why the world took notice,” he said.
“He was really passionate about that voice and the values it represented.
“It laid anchor to the roughest of dialogue.”
In an Instagram post, Dirk Blocker, the actor who played Alfred Hitchcock, described the character as “fiercely intelligent, remarkably kind, supportive, and generous, and possessed a deep and extraordinary talent, and had even more to offer.”
The 1989 Oscar-winning film Glory, which starred Denzel Washington and Morgan Freeman and portrayed an all-black army unit during the American Civil War, gave the Chicago-born actor his big break.

According to him, opportunities for African American musicians are “few and far between” in Hollywood, where he struggled to find work in 2019, despite the allegation. Just to quickly review.

Nevertheless, he went on to become well-known for the seven seasons he starred in the grittier NBC police drama Homicide: Life on the Street as Detective Frank Pembleton. David Simon later founded The Wire.
Simon expressed his surprise at X.
“Andre Braugher. God,” he penned.
“I’ve collaborated with several incredibly gifted actors. I have never worked with a better partner than I do now.”
A few years later, he made the transition to comedy, sharing the role of Captain Holt in the Fox sitcom Brooklyn Brooklyn 99 as a co-star with Andy Samberg. This was not a typical routine for the police.

Out of 11 nominations, Braugher received two career Emmys for the program.
Braugher was used to portraying serious, melancholy characters, so Brooklyn 99 was a significant departure for him, even if he had a comedic role in the TNT series Men of a Certain Age.
In an interview with the Associated Press, Braugher stated, “I just felt like it was an opportunity to do something really different from the rest of my career.”
“I enjoy it because it just forces me to reconsider my presumptions and change the way I think. As a result, I believe that my flexibility and openness to all of my options for portraying a scene have greatly increased as an actor.”
He was married to Homicide co-star Ami Brady for over thirty years.
Three sons were born to them.
