Fans in Las Vegas jeered Teofimo Lopez after he defeated Jamaine Ortiz on Thursday. The contentious decision did not sit well with the supporters.

The outspoken 26-year-old Teofimo Lopez defeated fellow American 27-year-old Ortiz by unanimous decision (115-113, 117-111). Lopez was able to hold onto his WBO super-lightweight title as a consequence.

Josh Taylor of Scotland performed admirably, but Lopez defeated him in June, so he was unable to win again. On Thursday, he was unable to repeat that accomplishment.

Yet during the altercation, Teofimo Lopez claimed that Ortiz was to blame, stating, “I tried my best for the people.” Even when I tried to box him in the opposite direction, he refused to commit.

“These people, these fighters who don’t want to come and fight, we cannot for a single moment claim are real fighters.” Get the f*** out of my sport if you’re not ready for this life.

Still, Lopez claimed that Ortiz was at fault during the fight, stating, “I tried my best for the people.” I tried to box him in the other direction, but he wouldn’t commit.

In 2020, Teofimo Lopez emerged victorious in the lightweight division after defeating Vasiliy Lomachenko via decision. However, he lost against George Kambosos Jr. on points in 2021.

In 2022, he advanced to the super-lightweight division following a convincing victory against Pedro Campa under Sandor Martin.

These fights prepared Lopez for his clash with Taylor, which resulted in the American becoming the world champion at two weights.
