Former Pakistani cricketer Khalid Latif has joined politics and is going to contest the 2024 elections on the ticket of Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan from PS 89.
Khalid Latif’s cricket career spanned from 2008 to 2016. He has also played in 137 first-class matches. Khalid Latif scored 147 for Pakistan in five one-day internationals and 237 in 13 T20 internationals. His score in first-class cricket is 8572, with 25 hundreds and 35 half centuries.
Latif was given a 12-year term in absentia by a Dutch court for claiming he could pay Rs. 3 million to a blasphemer.
According to sources, TLP head Saad Rizvi contacted Khalid Latif and asked him to contest on NA-231 with Hakim Baloch of the People’s Party, but Khalid Latif agreed to the ticket of PS-89. On PS-89, the PPP’s candidate is Saleem Blockh, the PTI’s man is Ashraf Sammo, and the Jamaat-e-Islami has fielded Shoaib Hyder for this seat.

Speaking to the media, Khalid Latif said that he is busy due to the beginning of his political activities. They’re doing a campaign. He also expressed hope that he would win the election in 2024.
He is not the first Pakistani player from the cell world to take part in politics. The first player who took part in politics was the captain of the Pakistani team, Abdul Hafeez Kardar. He contested the 1970 elections from Lahore on a PP ticket.
The captain of the Pakistani hockey team, Farmer Olympian, and half-player Akhtar Rasool also contested the MPA election from Lahore in 1985. Formal cricketer Sarfaraz Nawaz was also elected as an MPA from Lahore.
In 2002, former Olympian Qasim Zia was elected MPA on the ticket of the PPP, and in addition, PTI Chairman and 1992 World Cup-winning captain Imran Khan was also successful from Lahore in 2018.
