“It is with great sorrow that I bring news from the Jones family of the passing of our beloved Michael Jones, whom we know and loved as Virgil, Vincent, Soul Train Jones, and more,” he said in a letter to Charles. Please pray for Virgil’s family. His hospital death was calm this morning. Keeping his memories forever!”
The wrestling community was celebrated on social media.
When I found out about Virgil’s passing, I was crushed. WWE Hall of Famer Jake Roberts posted on Instagram, saying, “My friend, rest in peace.
“Virgil, thank you for the compassion and the memories. Godspeed. Former WWE star Luke Gallows said, “See you down the road, good brother,” on X.
Jones entered the WWE in the late 1980s while working as Ted DiBiase’s bodyguard. After defeating DiBiase, his old boss, in the 1990s, he won the Million Dollar Championship. The uprising, according to a WWE biography on Jones, “instantly made Virgil one of WWE’s most popular Superstars.”
Despite previous health problems, Jones’s cause of death was not known. Jones revealed on X in April 2022 that he had two strokes and early-stage dementia.
