Do you know? Walmart is offering drone delivery with wings. There has long been a belief that eventually we will all have our groceries and packages delivered to our homes by drones. Drone delivery implementation is a challenging and time-consuming process, so it’s understandable why the concept hasn’t taken off much—not even among the biggest merchants like Amazon. However, drone deliveries may become more popular as a result of the most recent partnership between the tech and retail Goliath.
Walmart announced its partnership with Alphabet’s drone delivery company, Wing, today. Walmart began testing drone delivery in 2021, but only 36 locations in seven states have been operational. They could expand their audience with Wing’s support, starting in Dallas.
SVP of Innovation & Automation at Walmart, Prathibha Rajashekhar, stated that “working with Wing directly aligns with our passion for finding innovative and eco-friendly last-mile delivery solutions to get customers the items they want, when they want them. Drones that can fly outside the visible line of sight are available within 6 miles of on-demand delivery businesses.”

“This is a major milestone for Wing, as we continue down our path toward building capabilities to support some of the most significant delivery operations in the world,” Nash said. “Our technology is designed to complement existing delivery offerings, making overall systems more efficient and able to meet real customer needs.”
In addition to the expanded delivery radius, Nash added that, in accordance with customer demand, the delivery service will be expanding its operating hours. Wing deliveries will be available from 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. local time, operating six days of the week, excluding Wednesdays.
For those interested in the expanded service, you can download the Wing Drone Delivery app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store and make an account.Home addresses with “coming soon” messages will be delivered farther. Nash promises greater expansions for the non-eligible.
