In the very first One-Day International, the bowlers from Australia were the ones who made it feasible for the West Indies to only score 231 runs. Fast bowler Xavier Bartlett, who was in his first year of playing, was the one who achieved this goal by taking four wickets.
Australia’s captain, Steve Smith, won the toss and elected to bowl first against the West Indies, with the help of a young bowling attack. Lance Morris and Xavier Bartlett, the young bowlers for the hosts, spearheaded their attack. Bartlett got off to a fast start, allowing Justin Greaves’ bowling to just score once. Alick Athanaze followed after trailing on five, and the West Indies were sent reeling.

The Caribbean team overcame early losses under the leadership of Keacy Carty and Shai Hope. But Bartlett struck once again, ending Hope’s inning and taking him down for a dozen runs. When Kavem Hodge and Carty looked like a winning combination, Cameron Green benched him for 11.
Chase and Carty led the inning in scoring. With fifty-eighty-two balls, Carty showed who he really was. Chase needed 61 balls to complete his half-century. Chase was dismissed for 59 runs by Adam Zampa, ending the partnership.
Carty’s run-out on 88 runs, which kept him from reaching a century, was helpful to Australia once Chase left. Before getting out, Hayden Walsh scored twenty runs, and Romario Shepherd got a golden duck. In his debut, Bartlett did well, going 4 for 17. He was assisted by Sean Abbott and Cameron Green in keeping the West Indies to 231 runs.
