UAE Yemeni Houthi rebels launched their first drone and missile strikes against Israel on Tuesday as Iran grew further involved in the Gaza conflict, raising the prospect of a regional war.
This month, the U.S. Navy shot down Houthi drones and missiles over the Red Sea commercial channel, saying they targeted Israel.
Israel said Tuesday that its powerful Arrow missile defence system and fighter planes intercepted two fire salvos hours apart as they approached Eilat, its main Red Sea shipping port.

After years of Yemen research, University of Ottawa researcher Thomas Juneau feels “now they have the hard power to back it.”
Juneau said, “It was just a matter of time before they would be able to do this,” referring to the rebels’ Iranian-backed missile programme. The US, Saudi Arabia, Houthis, and analysts blamed Iran for the Abqaiq strike. Despite Tehran’s denial, UN analysts claimed the Houthis were “unlikely” to have carried out the attack.
The Iranian UN representative warned the Associated Press that Houthi rebels would strike Israel.
He said, “Iran expressed concern that if these atrocities continued, the public might become enraged and the resistance movements’ patience would be worn thin.” “These issues may be remedied, and the US administration must end the Israeli regime’s wrongdoings.”
