In Ahmedabad on Saturday, India defeated Pakistan by seven wickets in the ICC Men’s World Cup 2023.
Following this defeat, former Pakistani captain Shoaib Malik accused Babar Azam of being a lacklustre leader.
When Babar was captain, Malik questioned his inventiveness in an interview with a local sports network. In order to concentrate on his batting and give more to the team, he proposed that Babar step down as captain.
“As I have insisted, Babar Azam needs to step down from his captaincy. This is what I think. Babar’s captaincy is to be expected. He sets an example, yet he’s not getting better. Malik claimed that, as a player, he can work miracles for Pakistan.

Legendary Pakistani cricketer Mohammad Yousuf, however, vehemently disagreed with Malik’s remarks, saying that they were unsuitable given the environment surrounding the World Cup. The significance of keeping Babar as captain was emphasised by him, citing Imran Khan’s effective leadership.
“I don’t think anyone should talk about this during the World Cup,” Second, Imran Khan led the squad twice but was unsuccessful in 1983 and 1987. It took him three attempts, but in 1992, he finally took home the crown. A gifted player ought to take the team’s captaincy for a spell. Because he can, he is the captain. Because of his connections to the PCB chairman, he was not selected as captain. Yousuf referred to himself as a skipper.
Malik and another panellist Wasim Akram received an admonition from the 49-year-old.
Making fun of him is detrimental to both him and Pakistan, given the tremendous stress that followed that defeat by India. “It’s amazing that Wasim Akram, who was seated there, did not stop him either,” he continued.
In response, Malik complimented Yousuf on his athletic abilities. But when pressed, he vehemently upheld his right to speak. Malik shared his concerns with Yousuf.
I really enjoyed my time with Yousuf. He has my utmost regard. However, that’s just my viewpoint, and I’m happy to answer any questions. We wouldn’t need a channel if you comprehended my query and answer. Simply said, Malik said, “Yousuf bhai, I love you.”
