Bayern Munich is still searching the Premier League for a defender

Bayern Munich is still interested in signing Newcastle United right-back Kieran Trippier, but the Premier League (PL) team is putting up a fight.

Trippier is a former midfield player for Atletico Madrid, and it seems Newcastle turned down Bayern’s first offer for him because they didn’t want to part with him.

Due to Trippier’s importance to the Premier League team and the lack of viable replacements, the club does not want to lose him during the January transfer window.

Nonetheless, Trippier is eager to start playing for Bayern, which last month signed Eric Dier from Tottenham Hotspur. The Xabi Alonso-led Bayer Leverkusen team will provide the Bavarians with formidable competition in the Bundesliga.

The 33-year-old right-back’s affinity for the Bavarian team is what drew Bayern manager Thomas Tuchel to the player more than the team’s desire to sign Nordi Mukiele of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).

They had verbally agreed on personal terms for the move to Munich, but Trippier and Newcastle had rejected their first offer, according to Sky Germany.

“The defender will do whatever it takes to fulfil his ambition of travelling to Munich immediately. The record champions are now in communication with the Magpies as well, thanks to the commitment of the Newcastle player. The player’s contract is still in effect until 2025, according to a Sky Germany report.

If Trippier is able to complete his transfer to Munich, he will be paired alongside his English teammates Dier and Harry Kane.

It should be recalled that, with one game left in the Bundesliga, Bayern Munich is currently seven points behind Leverkusen in seventh place.

At the Allianz Arena, they were defeated 1-0 by Werder Bremen in their most recent league match.

On the other hand, Newcastle sits 10th in the Premier League with 29 points from 21 games. Despite their miserable league performance this year, the Magpies are unwilling to let Trippier leave, but a hefty financial offer from the Bavarians might convince them differently.
