Dan Schneider: "I owe some pretty strong apologies" for Nickelodeon's "regretful" move

Former Nickelodeon executive Dan Schneider discussed his actions.

Schneider, who left the network in 2018, discussed the charges in a YouTube interview with Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV.

Former Nickelodeon star Drake Bell gave a detailed account of the 15-year-old sexual assault allegations on Investigation Discovery.

Bell asserted on the programme that he had been mistreated by dialect coach Brian Peck of Nickelodeon’s All That and The Amanda Show.

Dan Schneider, the producer of Carly, Drake & Josh, and Zoey 101, described the documentary as “particularly challenging” since it revealed his “previous behaviours, some of which are embarrassing and that I regret.”

The documentary claims that Schneider abuses and humiliates performers and staff.

He apologised to a few people in the 19-minute video, saying, “I hate that anybody worked for me and didn’t have a good time.” He was speaking with BooG!E, the T-Bo actor from iCarly.

Schneider says that “a good boss should never ever let the pressure of doing 40 episodes or more a year get to me.”

He said that “I get angry with people sometimes.” I would have replied with sarcasm if I could have done it in a decent manner. Time was not on our side. It is too fast to switch between tasks.

“I wanted to pick up the phone and call some of those people and say, ‘I’m so sorry,’ and let’s talk about it,’ so many times while watching that documentary,” Schneider says. “Seeing the hurt in some people’s eyes… made me feel awful, regretful, and sorry,” she said.

Schneider asserted in the video that he never recruited Peck, who was found guilty in 2004 of abusing Bell sexually. The video never revealed Bell’s status as a victim.

“I’m here for you,” declares Schneider. “When Drake and I talked and he told me about what happened, I was more devastated by that than anything that has ever happened to me in my career thus far.”

“It was wrong.” Schneider went on, requesting massages in advance. I never belonged there, placing someone in that predicament. Not true. I could never complete it now. I regret it afterward. I’m sorry to everyone I put in that situation.

Schneider became well-known for playing Dennis Blunden in Head of Class. Schneider used restraint to create Nickelodeon’s Kenan & Kel after all of that.

Kenan Thompson, Amanda Bynes, and Ariana Grande all credit him for starting their careers.
