New Zealand announces its team for the Pakistan T20 series

Fast bowler Matt Henry has been added to the Twenty20 International squad of New Zealand to play Pakistan after missing time due to a hamstring injury.

After suffering an injury during the 2023 Cricket World Cup, Henry is getting ready to play domestic cricket again on Friday. After that, he’ll be part of New Zealand’s 13-man squad for the five matches starting on January 12.

Along with left-hand hitter Devon Conway and captain Kane Williamson, who were both rested during their summer tour of Bangladesh, the 32-year-old is back in the starting lineup.

Williamson will miss the third Twenty20 international of the series since he has been battling a bothersome knee ailment for the past year. Mitchell Santner will head the team, and Josh Clarkson, who is uncapped, has been brought in as a cover for the match. Lockie Ferguson is anticipated to return; however, Rachin Ravindra is anticipated to miss the rest of the series.

Gary Stead, the coach of New Zealand, has decided to focus on the series against Pakistan as the Twenty20 World Cup draws near.

With only three T20I series remaining before it, every game helps us prepare for the T20 World Cup.

“I know the players will enjoy celebrating the series opener at Eden Park (Auckland) on a Friday night.”

Ben Sears took over for Ferguson when Kyle Jamieson and Michael Bracewell were sidelined due to achilles and hamstring injuries, respectively. Trent Boult and Jimmy Neesham were not available for selection.

The New Zealand T20I team representing Pakistan will play in Auckland on January 9.

The players on the roster are: Josh Clarkson (match 3 only), Ish Sodhi, Tim Southee, Lockie Ferguson (matches 3, 4, and 5), Ben Sears (matches 1 and 2), Adam Milne, Daryl Mitchell, Glenn Phillips, Mitchell Santner, and Matt Henry.
