Sydney weather report: Rain ruins Australia-Pakistan's third Test

The second day of the third Test match between Australia and Pakistan in Sydney on Thursday was gloomy and rainy.

Rain and poor lighting ruined the day’s final session.

The Australian Bureau of Meteorology predicts 70% rain for the day. A strong westward thunderstorm is possible.

Friday has a 50% chance of rain, especially in the afternoon and morning.

Saturday and Sunday have a 20–30% chance of rain.

After Pakistan bowled openers Usman Khawaja and David Warner, Australia reached tea with 116-2.

Despite the ground lighting, play ended 45 minutes before the tea party, with Steve Smith on six and Marnus Labuschagne on twenty-three.

The umpires took an early tea with storms looming and the hosts down by 197 runs.

Warner appeared unhappy as he left the Sydney Cricket Ground after 34 took his place, despite the thunderous applause from his home audience. He failed to make history in his 112th and last Test match.

After off-spinner Agha Salman gave Warner extra bounce and turned out of the rough, Warner beat him by slipping a catch off his shoulder to a grinning Babar Azam at slip.

Warner made 26 hundreds and 8,729 Test runs at 44.53 in his 2011 debut. In his final test, he may bat in the second inning.

Teenage rookie Saim Ayub caught 37-year-old opener Aamer Jamal at first slip on 20, but Jamal was spared.

With so many lost opportunities, Pakistan had another awful fielding situation this series.

On Wednesday, Ayub bent in pain after missing a simple chance to go two balls without hitting in his debut Test match’s first over.

Hot Spot saw Khawaja, who typically scores 130 at the SCG, stunned by a gloved catch that dropped down the leg side off Jamal and resulted in a 47 during a review.

The Pakistani opening batsman played steadily for 143 balls until the tourists celebrated his removal. He relaxed and gave himself one chance to be thrown out.

Australia won the last Test of the three-match series by 79 runs in Melbourne over Christmas.
