Sunrisers Hyderabad announce the replacement of Wanindu Hasaranga

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) employed the talented leg-spinner Vijayakanth Viyaskanth. Wanindu Hasaranga will not play in the 2024 IPL.

After acquiring Hasaranga for INR1.5 crore in December, the 2016 winners expected him to make his IPL debut for SRH. This season, a left foot injury kept him from playing for his new team.

Wanindu Hasaranga joined the Royal Challengers of Bangalore for two seasons after his purchase at auction in 2022 for Rs 10.75 crore. The previous year, he was released after a short period of time, but in his first encounter, he took 26 wickets against the RCB, leaving a lasting impression.

Leg-spinner Vijayakanth of Sri Lanka has participated in just one Twenty20 international match. At SRH, he earns INR 50 lakh as his base salary.

A specialist ordered Hasaranga to rest and heal the injury to his left ankle, which he sustained during Sri Lanka’s white-ball series against Bangladesh in March.

Shyam, the manager of Hasaranga, said to Cricbuzz, “I think so.” Sri Lanka Cricket reported his absence in writing to the BCCI. He travelled to Dubai for three days in order to seek medical advice. The expert suggests that he miss the Indian Premier League tournament this season due to the conditions.”

The International Cricket Council (ICC) suspended Wanindu Hasaranga for two matches in March after he received eight demerit points for breaking the player code of conduct during the third One-Day International (ODI) match against Bangladesh.

The all-round player returned to playing Test cricket after receiving his sentence; therefore, he missed Sri Lanka’s matches. Sri Lanka prohibited him from participating in Sri Lanka’s 2024 T20 World Cup group matches until he retired.
