On Thursday night, Toulouse beat Liverpool 3-2 in their European League match.
Aron Donnum, Frank Magri, and Thijs Dallinga scored goals to upset Jürgen Klopp’s team in southern France.
Liverpool’s response came via a late solo strike by Diogo Jota and an own goal by Cristian Casseres. VAR ruled that Jarell Quansah’s goal in stoppage time was illegal.
Whichever way the game goes, Liverpool is ahead in Group E. They can guarantee their berth in the following round if they defeat LASK the following time.
First half
Gomez struck Gakpo’s free kick against the crossbar in the first four minutes, almost giving Liverpool the lead.
Matip headed a corner over the bar, and Mac Allister’s well-struck volley was deflected for a corner as the visitors held possession and attempted to score.

After twenty-five minutes, Diaz forced Toulouse custodian Guillaume Restes to make his first save. Gabriel Suazo of the home squad squandered a chance shortly afterward.
Donnum destroyed the Reds’ hopes nine minutes before halftime when he took advantage of Tsimikas, broke through, and watched his shot rebound off Quansah and past an unseen Kelleher. Restes denied Doak’s claim.
Second half
At the break, Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah, and Dominik Szoboszlai took the places of Doak, Endo, and Tsimikas.
Toulouse had a first-half opportunity when Suazo, Dallinga’s substitute, missed the goal. Matip fouled, and Dallinga’s goal was not permitted.
In the 58th minute, Dallinga headed in a cross from Vincent Sierro and curled a low effort over Kelleher and into the far corner.
The Reds’ reply from Mac Allister veered off course. An extra goal was disallowed for offside against the hosts. Gomez’s header overcame Casseres with sixteen minutes remaining, cutting Liverpool’s lead.
Moments later, Toulouse had a two-goal advantage once more thanks to a far-post goal by Magri.
With 89 seconds remaining, Jota repeated his run and finish from the clubs’ meeting at Anfield, setting up an incredible finale. Klopp’s group thought they had saved a point.
In the sixth minute of added time, Quansah scored from within the box, but Toulouse held on when VAR concluded that Mac Allister handled the build-up.
